“I remembered that it was Sunday, and that bothered me: I don’t like Sundays.” – Meursault, from Albert Camus’s the Stranger
Ol’ Dead Eye Dick, wrong again:
Remember what bin Laden’s strategy is. He doesn’t think he can beat us in the stand-up fight. He thinks he can force us to quit. He believes that, after Lebanon in ’83 and Somalia in ’93, that the United States doesn’t have the stomach for a long war.
And Iraq is the current central battlefield in that war, and we must win there. It’s absolutely essential that we win there, and we will win there.
Osama bin Laden’s strategy in his own words:
“We are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy. Allah willing, and nothing is too great for Allah,” bin Laden said in the transcript.
He said the mujahedeen fighters did the same thing to the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980s, “using guerrilla warfare and the war of attrition to fight tyrannical superpowers.”
“We, alongside the mujahedeen, bled Russia for 10 years until it went bankrupt and was forced to withdraw in defeat,” bin Laden said.
He also said al Qaeda has found it “easy for us to provoke and bait this administration.”
“All that we have to do is to send two mujahedeen to the furthest point east to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al Qaeda, in order to make generals race there to cause America to suffer human, economic and political losses without their achieving anything of note other than some benefits for their private corporations,” bin Laden said.
Dear Mr. Cheney, it’s not a matter of leaving before the job is done, it is simply that the longer we stay, the more assured our defeat is.

Cheney somehow slipped out of his straightjacket? The man is insane. He thinks he knows, but he is delusional, totally out of synch with any known reality.
Damn! The US has fallen into Osama’s trap! Now if we only had leaders who realized they were stuck.
Cheney is certifiable. How anyone can believe anything he says is beyond me. Reality based he is not.
Delusion is a wonderful thing. No worries!
I don’t think Cheney is delusional. I think GWB is, and that Cheney has fed and nurtured his insanity. GWB walked into the White House fully intent on invading Iraq, on any lame excuse, and was handed one 9 months later.
Cheney is the Antichrist.
