Obama awarded 2009 Nobel Peace Prize
updated 14 minutes ago
The president had not been mentioned as among front-runners for the prize, and the roomful of reporters gasped when Thorbjorn Jagland, chairman of the Nobel committee, uttered Obama’s name.

Nominations for the prize had to be postmarked by February 1 — only 12 days after Obama took office. The committee sent out its solicitation for nominations last September — two months before Obama was elected president.

The president, who was awakened to be told he had won, said he was humbled to be selected, according to an administration official.

I’m fucking speechless. Let’s just take a look at what was going on, oh, say, in the week prior to the nominations being due.

President Obama ‘orders Pakistan drone attacks’
January 23, 2009
Missiles fired from suspected US drones killed at least 15 people inside Pakistan today, the first such strikes since Barack Obama became president and a clear sign that the controversial military policy begun by George W Bush has not changed.

Take it away, Jim:

I like to think that all people of good will, no matter our opinions on health-insurance reform, a second stimulus or cap-and-trade legislation, can agree that awarding the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize to Barack Obama is one of the bigger fucking absurd fucking travesties of a low fucking dishonest fucking decade.

Crazy as it is Nobel has an even worse “winner” by the name of Henry Kissinger.

Man, oh man……although I keep hoping for something good to come of his 4 yrs, you’re right, can’t get any PEACE while ya keep bombing away.

Although, seems the right keeps mentioning, look what he’s doing in afghanistan, but who started us out there, etc, etc.

When I delivered stock market quotations in the financial district of SF when they were still on paper from NY, I met a kid from afghanistan, and this was back in the 70s. He was trying to save money to get his parents out of there. The stories he told me about life there, seem to be no different than today, sadly.

Anyway, I peek, but spend less time looking around and leaving a comment.

Hope all is well with you and your family!

    Cheers!

Well he *is* likely responsible for fewer deaths worldwide per day than Chimpy. Hey, wait, I’ve killed fewer people than Richard Ramirez, where’s my prize, dammit?

I was really mixed about this until Liz Cheney suggested it be given to the military and Bill Kristol thought he should win.

Now, I agree with the Committee. Obama isn’t Bush and we all deserve a prize for that.
